“All my life, I’ve gravitated to fantasy stories, stories I felt I could be a part of, where I could completely immerse myself in my imagination.”

My name is Jacquitta A. McManus and I'm a children's book author, illustrator and publisher that is inspired by fantasy adventure stories that push the imagination.

I started writing children stories years ago, it came out of a desire to create characters I felt my daughter could relate to. It also came from a desire to create stories that would excite her imagination when she laid in bed at night.

To help bring those worlds to life I started illustrating. It's taking some years but now I'm ready to illustrate, write and publish the worlds that have been swirling around in my head.

1. What sort of stories do you provide?

I provide fantasy adventure children books with a female protagonist of color.  The adventures my characters go on will spark curiosity, imagination and a taste for adventure in young readers.

2. What is your typical clientele?

The core buyers for my books are parents of children ages four to twelve.

3. What is the story behind your business - why did you decide to go out on your own?

The idea of creating a publishing company specific to children's books started to develop when I was looking for books for my daughter to read with characters that looked like her. It’s not that I couldn’t find books with African-American characters; rather that I couldn’t find fantasy adventure books with an African-American female protagonist. This really bothered me. It took years, but I eventually realized that I could create those books.

So I started studying writing and eventually published two books and one coloring book. I'm currently working on more books for release.
